Weekly Topic Saturday #33: The Subconscious Mind

Welcome to Weekly Topic Saturdays!

Hello all, I pray that your week was filled with joy and love. Welcome back to those who have been with me here at A Golden Dream. For my first-timers, a great big hello there, if you haven't already please check out my previous posts when you get a chance.

Please don't hesitate to join the conversation, there are no right or wrong answers or questions. I'm not proclaiming to know everything, I am simply just discussing and picking topics on things that I personally have gone through and that I know would help someone.

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

Colossians 3:2

Our subconscious mind is very powerful, it is what influences our actions and our emotions. We can think of our subconscious mind as a file cabinet that stores and holds on to our beliefs, values, previous experiences, memories, skills, and the things we have done and seen. Our subconscious mind is responsible for influencing a lot of the things that drive us each and every day. This is why God constantly reminds us throughout his Word to renew our minds daily, pray, and set our minds on things that are righteous, heavenly, and holy.

Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Romans 8:8

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

Romans 8:5-6

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

1 Peter 5:8

Like we discussed in Mindfulness: Your Choices Have Power, each and every day we are faced with many decisions that we have to make about what to do. We are given the opportunities to make good choices and lean on the understanding of God. In our mind, we are at war with ourselves fighting between our flesh and our spirit.

The flesh tells us to give in to sin, to hold grudges, fight, curse people out, be mean to others, and or to abandon our morals. Our flesh is sinful in nature, the Devil tries to step in and tempt us with things, trap us with empty promises, invoke doubt, and cause us to lose sight of what really matters. Remember we cannot be pleasing to God if we allow our flesh to lead. This is where the use of Holy Clap Backs comes in, we have to be prepared for the Devil and have our arsenal of scriptures ready to go. The adversary is not dumb by any means he is organized, more so than people think. So we have to be prepared.

For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Galatians 5:16

The spirit tells us to keep our focus on God and do what he has called us to do. The spirit encourages us to help those in need, treat others kindly, do the right thing, follow the commandments, pray, build a relationship with God, and continuously strive to do our purpose. Many of us are wondering why we do not have peace and serenity within our lives and it is because we are not allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us. Instead, our subconscious mind allows the flesh to take over especially when situations get tough and people make us angry. Instead of giving in to those urges, we must let God step in and allow the Holy Spirit to take over.

The subconscious mind is a battleground and our adversary knows it. He knows that if there is a single strand of doubt in our mind that it means there is space for him to come in and wreak havoc. The adversary knows that when we have our minds and our hearts set on God, he has no way of entrance. With our subconscious mind warring between the flesh and the spirit, it makes us exhausted, and weary. It leaves us vulnerable because we become too tired to protect ourselves, too exhausted to put on the Armor of God much less the Helmet of Salvation to protect our minds and thoughts from the attack. It means that our spiritual guard is down disengaging our defenses. Don’t let the enemy disarm you.

Questions To Consider:

1. What is your mind focused on?

2. Do you allow the flesh or the Holy Spirit to control your subconscious mind?

3. Are you protecting your mind? Or is it vulnerable?

4. Do you protect yourself by wearing the Helmet of Salvation?

5. Are you exposing yourself because you're not spiritually equipped in wearing the Full Armor of God?

6. Do your mind and thoughts consume you?

With Love, remember that the subconscious mind is a powerful thing that has a major influence on what we do and how we respond to things. Our subconscious mind stores so much information for us to use throughout our lives. It is also the most vulnerable part of our mind because this is where the battle between the flesh and the spirit starts. Don’t let the flesh take over your mindset because it will leave you vulnerable for the enemy to step in and create chaos. Keep your mind on God, and renew it daily.

~Just Breathe...A Golden Dream~

Amen.
