Motivational Mondays #45 Get To Know Yourself

Welcome to Motivational Mondays!

First things first, what are Motivational Mondays?

Just like it sounds, to motivate, to empower, and to encourage you on the first day of a fresh week. I don't know about you but Mondays can be a drag for me, so sometimes words of encouragement and positivity are helpful to start my day off right.

Motivational Monday's topic is:

Get To Know Yourself

How many of you can really say that you know yourself? I know for me, that is a loaded question! What does it mean to really know who I am deep down? Who am I at my core! We are all complex people with varying emotions, preferences, triggers, pet peeves, personalities, temperaments, viewpoints, and opinions. We get so caught up in what the world labels us as and who our family and friends label us as that we lose our trueness. We take what our loved ones say to heart because we assume that because they are closest to us their perception must be accurate.

To acquire wisdom is to love oneself; people who cherish understanding will prosper.

Proverbs 19:8

People place biased expectations on others and then we feel compelled to fulfill them because that is what is expected. The ONLY one who knows who you are At Your Core is God because he created you. So before you ask yourself these questions pray to God for clarity and ask him to reveal the answers to you. You may be shocked by what you find out. The process of getting to know yourself can be a huge ordeal. Let me tell you, it is going to require you to dig deep, uncover the things that you have been hiding from yourself, and unpack the emotions that you have been suppressing. You may cry, you may feel overwhelmed, and you may even feel stressed, but you can do it! Especially when you actually take the time to sit down and do exercises and worksheets in order to fully grasp all you need to know about yourself.

I too did the same thing. Two years ago, I wanted to learn more about myself. How has my past shaped my future and furthermore how my past lessons shaped the way I view myself and the decisions that I will make in the future. It took me years to break down the fact that I was carrying around 10 plus years of trauma, hurt, pain, and failed lessons that I didn't know were affecting my life.

The second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these

Mark 12:31

Below are some questions to ask yourself as you're getting to know yourself. These are the very questions I asked myself.

  1. What things in my life make me feel chaotic?

  2. What are my top 5 fears, and how do they affect me?

  3. What ignites me into doing what I love?

  4. What is the biggest goal for your life?

  5. What is one thing/ legacy that you would want to leave behind?

  6. What is something you need to let go of? What is weighing you down? How can you make peace with it to let it go?

  7. Do you hurt others to feel better about yourself?

  8. Do you think your feelings are more important than others?

  9. Are you selfish?

  10. What are your strengths?

  11. What are your weaknesses that make you vulnerable in situations or in life?

  12. What are your principles, morals, values, and beliefs?

  13. Would you compromise your own happiness for the sake of others? Why or why not?

  14. What would you like to improve about yourself and why?

  15. Do you fully believe in God?

  16. Do you have faith?

  17. What does God mean to you?

  18. What are new and exciting hobbies that you would like to try and do?

  19. What about your personality and your attitude that can get you into trouble?

  20. Do you have a strong personality?

  21. Just like a business, what would your mission statement be for your life?

  22. What are the 3 best attributes that you have?

  23. Are you honest with yourself?

  24. Do you have self-compassion for yourself as you do for other people?

  25. What are my triggers? Am I aware of them?

  26. Am I easy to get along with? Be honest.

  27. What is my temperament with others and situations that are difficult?

  28. Do I come off as abrasive to others?

  29. What makes me happy? Do I know how to find happiness if I don't have it at the moment?

  30. Do I hold people or myself accountable for things when they happen? Good or Bad?

Always be kind to yourself. Patient with yourself and most importantly take care of yourself.

You are the most important person in your world.
